If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would you choose and why?

At the moment, I would choose Ocean Eyes by Owl City. It's one of the few albums I can honestly listen to all the way through without skipping any songs. The lyrics are so beautiful and the melodies are catchy.

What is your dream job? Do you think you'll ever have it?

I always go back and forth about what I would like to do with my life. When I first started to become interested in art, it was a cartoonist. When I was five, I thought it would be the most amazing job ever to work for Disney and draw The Little Mermaid all day. A few years later, when my drawing skills developed, and I started becoming interested in people wearing different outfits, my grandma suggested I consider fashion design. That dream really took off and was with me for quite some time until I realized that I HATED sewing, and I know once you become a big time fashion designer, you have other people do the sewing for you, but I knew that I'd have to sew at some point. Then late in high school, I dabbled in creative writing a little and writing for my school's newspaper, hoping to someday be a journalist or writer. After high school, I was jet-set on being a graphic designer (like my dad)...and now I'm on my path for the rest of my life. I'm majoring in Illustration, so my job will be somewhere in there. Whether or not it's my dream job is still kind of iffy. I love to photograph nature and I often picture myself living up in the mountains or somewhere with a gorgeous landscape taking photos of nature. If I could just surround myself with beauty, that'd be great. But in a way, that's what I already do. I'm an artist, I draw what I see as beautiful, sometimes what I see as not beautiful. In a way, I'm already living my dream of just getting to go out and take pictures of whatever whenever. Getting to draw whatever pops into my mind. I may not be getting paid for it, but a dream job is something you should do for free anyway.

Do you prefer to spend a three-day weekend chilling at home or hitting the road?

View 1106 Answers

I'd probably prefer to stay home, and that is what I did this labor day weekend.

But if I were going somewhere not too far away, like somewhere in Wisconsin, or to Woodfield to go shopping, then I wouldn't mind a roadtrip. Long roadtrips where I would get back like really close to the time I have to go back to school/work are not really my thing. I like to have time to adjust back into my school/work state of mind and I like having plenty of time to unpack. It seems too rushed otherwise.

But I definitely do enjoy just chilling at home, watching some tv, checking my facebook, drawing. I'm a real homebody at heart.

Headphones because I like to listen to my music semi-loud and no one else likes to hear it.

External hard drive because I take A LOT of pictures and even our 500 GB computer won't be able to hold all of it one day on it's own.

Webcam so I can talk to my sis at college

Flash drive for school purposes.

What are some things you can do today because of technology that you couldn't do five years ago?

I would have to say that innovations in communication have greatly changed the world in the past five years. Like now with Facebook, you can easily keep in touch with friends who live across the country or just down the street with just a few clicks of the mouse. And this whole Skype thing just blows my mind. lol I know the idea isn't really new. But we just got it and it's great that I can talk to my sister 100 miles away at U of I. It's almost like she never left because I can see her and talk to her at the same time.

Also, I don't really know how long these things have been around, but USB drives and external hard drives are amazing and totally beat the compact disc any day of the week. It's like having a mini computer on a keychain around your neck anywhere you go. For school, we used to have to make big posters for speeches and presentations and lug them around while they got all wrinkled and the pictures started falling off of them. Now, we make a powerpoint presentation at home, save it to the flash drive and plug it in at school. It's that simple.

Music has also benefited in the same way. No need to carry around my entire collection of cds when I'm at school or on the go now. I just have my iPod and I'm good.

Technology is great, eventhough it still causes me a lot of problems, but I love it regardless.

What's on your perfect playlist for a cross-country road trip?

View 508 Answers

Oh, how I'd love to go on a cross-country road trip. Just me and a bunch of friends. That would be sweet. Hmmm, reminds me of how late it is in summer and how sad I am about the fact.

but I digress...

I would pretty much choose albums that I could listen to beginning to end and not have to skip songs much. Lets see...

Folie A Deux and Infinity on High by Fall Out Boy, Day & Age by the Killers, Sam's Town by the Killers, just about any album by Coldplay (aside from X & Y), Goodbye Blues by The Hush Sound, some Kelly Clarkson (her later albums like My December and All I Ever Wanted), It's Not Me It's You by Lily Allen, One of the Boys by Katy Perry, Perfect Symetry by Keane, Ocean Eyes by Owl City (that has some GREAT traveling music), Some Beatles music (both their own recordings and the Across the Universe soundtrack)....just basically something for my every mood and stuff that my friends would also enjoy.

really, I'd just get one of those iPod road trip things for the car (if I had a car and actually drove) and set it to shuffle. No need to switch cds or playlists.

Have you ever found yourself enjoying something you had previously scorned as a cliché? What was it?

View 502 Answers

I catch myself doing things all the time, that I never thought I'd do or like.

The main one is using an iPod.

When I was in high school, iPods were only the "coolest things ever", seriously EVERYONE had one. I found them to be overrated, and I heard that a lot of people had problems with them, so I just had my Sony mp3 player for a little while...unfortunately, that only held 80 songs! Not nearly enough. Well, at that time, (it was long before the Zune came along) the iPod was the only mp3 player that held all the songs I wanted it to...so with much of my high school graduation money, I went out and bought an iPod Nano for myself. I have never looked back since.

Although now I have the 8 GB Green Nano...the first one was running out of space.

From Dr. Polidori's Lord Ruthven to Stephenie Meyer's Edward Cullen, the annals of vampire lore are filled with attractive, charming bloodsuckers. Which one would you most want to be bitten by?

um, duh!

but honestly, I don't think I'd want to be bitten by a vampire. I'm not Bella Swan. I don't think it would be a very pleasant experience, though I'm sure I could only benefit from the outcome of it.

Are you friends with your parents?

View 502 Answers

I wouldn't go so far as to call my parents "friends", but I am probably closer to them than most of my friends are with theirs. I have no life, pretty much, so I spend a lot of time at home, which is ok. I like to stay home. I'm boring and a total square like that.

My mom and I have a love/hate relationship. She is very interested in my life and my friends and pretty much everything I do and everyone I know so she always wants to talk to me and she wants us to have one of those mom/daughter-no-secrets sort of relationships, but I'm more of a private person. Like if there's a guy that I like, I WILL NOT tell her about it, in fact I usually don't tell anyone, because she will FREAK OUT (like "awwwwwwwwwwww!mylittlegirlhasacrush...ohwhoisitwhatdoeshedo?!?!?!") and want to know every little detail about his life. She does that even with my male friends--hell, she does it with my female friends too. It's because of that that I don't like sharing many things with her. And she gets angry very easily, but I manage to get along with her most of the time, regardless.

My dad is the exact opposite of my mom. He doesn't try to butt in on my life, but if it's an important question, he'll ask it. My dad and I have a lot of common interests as well, so that helps. We both like to go to Borders and just sit in the cafe and drink coffee, and we both are interested in art (that is where I get my drawing skill from). I get along better with my dad than I do with my mom, but my dad and I have like literally NOTHING to talk about, EVER! So when it's just me and him together, there is little to be said. Both of us, are fairly quiet about most things. My dad does sometimes criticize me and say semi-rude things about what I'm doing, but he's usually appologetic if I explain to him that it hurt me.

If you could only eat one kind of cuisine—Mexican, Thai, French, Italian, Indian, Chinese, etc.—for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?

Chinese! Hands down.

If it were healthy (and didn't make me go broke), I'd probably eat at Panda Express and get a Panda Bowl with orange chicken and chow mein every single day.

but in reality, I'd get sick of it after a while.

Pokemon(both the tv show and the DS game), the Twilight series, Kraft Mac n' Cheese in the shape of Spongebob with the powdered cheese, pop music, band t-shirts (although I try not to wear them too much aside from when I work), stuffed animals, spending tons of time on the computer...the list goes on

What vacations would you most like to take in the next five years?

Presented by Intel, Sponsors of Tomorrow.

View 307 Answers

I don't get to travel very often, but when I do, I like to go to really fun places (or at least I would like to)

#1 Pacific Northwest United States/Alaska

I'd love to see the beautiful scenery. The landscapes are just so much different than what I see around here. I think it would be so peaceful to sit and be surrounded by nature. Once I started going to school in Chicago and was constantly surrounded by people and tall buildings, I really grew to appreciate nature and how wonderful it truly is. The ultimate escape for me would be to just be able to sit on a mountain and reflect on things while looking at the sky. And of course, I'd like to visit Seattle, Portland, and Forks too. Plus I could see the ocean, which I have never seen.

#2 London and the English Countryside

London may be a huge city, but it's the old fashioned charm mixed in with the new and wonderous things that draw me in. I definitely want to take a ride on the London Eye, with views of the city as far as the eye can see. Plus I just love the accents. It would be a very magical vacation.

#3 Australia and New Zealand

Once again, these places are so drastically different from where I live, it would be quite an experience. I want to see the green mountains of NZ (a lot of cool movies were filmed there because of the gorgeous scenery) and the desert sand of Australia. I'd love to visit the Sydney Opera House, hold a baby koala (a tame one), see kangaroos, see the ocean and it's coral reefs. It would be an amazing vacation. The accents here are cool too.

I doubt I'll get to go to any of these places in the next few years, but hey, I can dream.

Happy Bastille Day! Today the French celebrate the event that sparked the French revolution. In honor of our Francophone friends, what is your favorite French thing? Bonus points for answers en français.

I'd have to say out of everything that comes from the great land of France, my honest favorite would be the croissant! Flaky, buttery, yummy goodness. Smear a little orange marmalade or butter on there and you've got it made!

Marie Antoinette and the whole Rococo style are a close second for me (hence the icon usage).

It's blockbuster season in movie theaters. What was the last movie you saw?

View 500 Answers

This reminds me, I forgot to mention how I saw Year One a couple of weeks ago. That was the last movie I saw in theatres.

It was funny, could have been funnier, but Michael Cera's adorable geekiness made up for most of it. The best lines were anything said by Hank Azaria's character (he's always got the best lines in all of the movies he is in), but it was really stupid otherwise, because it was supposed to be stupid. And there were a few really gross scenes that I do not care to mention.

wow, was that pointless or what?

Empty parking garages, roadside motels, dark caves, dank basements, overgrown forests—what kind of setting makes you feel nervous?

View 501 Answers

As many of you may know, I have many fears. I'm afraid of just about everything that one can be afraid of--which is not exactly something to be proud of, I know. So I definitely have many places that scare me.

1. Old houses. Like, especially old, victorian-style houses with creaky floors and busy floral wallpaper. Ugh, you just know that someone was probably brutally murdered in there. Example: The Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast. I'm going to count in pretty much any B&B (unless it's certified NOT haunted) and old motels/hotels. My Uncle used to live in Southern MO, and he took his family to the Crescent Inn in Eureka Springs, AK one year (look that place up, it's the most haunted hotel in America), they brought back pictures and, those were some of the freakiest images I've ever seen.

2. Alleys and ghetto-looking streets in the city. I don't know why I used to love the city, probably because the only part of it I ever saw were the safe parts. But there are some strange people that lurk around down there. Makes me very nervous. I'm going to add the bus and or L into this too because someone told me a story that her friend saw some guy get stabbed in the head (yes! not even kidding) on the L, and the bus is pretty horrible too.

3. Anywhere that's abandoned. ie. warehouses, factories, homes, stores. They're just so dark and lifeless and I am deathly afraid of the dark, yes at my age, STILL!

4. This goes along with the last one, but anywhere where it is dark, as in no lights whatsoever, scares me. I can't go into my room at night without reaching my hand around the corner to turn on the light before I get in. I just hate the dark. I just hate it. Have to do that if I get up to use the washroom in the middle of the night as well.

wow, pretty long for a random post.
