I've found that this summer, I prefer being at work to being at home.

Monday was a horrible day. I was home all day with little to do and not many people to talk to and that made me sort of depressed. Today, I worked 8-2 and I was fine. There weren't many people to talk with, but it was better than just sitting around at home. Although I can't say that the day was a total waste because I cleaned out a portion of my closet and found an old pair of jean capris that still fit. I have recently been looking to buy a new pair of capris, as I have one pair that fit well and look ok. I dug through my closet and it was like a treasure trove of denim. Some fit, some didn't, some I should have thrown away a loooooong time ago. But I found two pairs that are wearable. Since I like cuffed jean capris, I took mighty mend-it to the hems and they were good as new! I felt so economical.

I got one of my co-workers, Kathy B. (yes, she's the one that used to hate me) into the Nintendo DS. We were all talking about games last Friday when there was little to do and I mentioned something about how I love my Nintendo DS. Kathy said that she had been thinking about buying one for a while now, and I guess that little commentary by me helped her make her decision. She went out that day on her lunch break and bought a DS plus three games! She told me to bring in my DS today, so I did and I showed her a few of my games. Lately, I've been playing this new game I got called Rhythm Heaven. It consists of 50 mini games where they play music or a beat and based on the storyline of the game or the characters in it, you have to tap or flick the stylus with the rhythm. It's super fun, but I'm not an expert at it...yet. haha. So anyway, today, Kathy and I basically talked about the DS and all the cool games for it the entire time I worked. It was fun. I'm glad that we finally get along.

Thursday I work the entire day because that is UNOFFICIALLY the first day that Fall books will be sold. I say "unofficially" because usually the first day, the bookstore transforms into a mad house and every single student wedges themselves in there to buy their books. The waits are usually at least 45 minutes, and by the end of the day, we all pretty much collapse on top of one another. Long story short, it's hell! So my boss decided that we should tell people that we aren't selling them until August 3rd, in order to spread out the crowds. It sounds like a plan to me, although I know that a few smart people will catch on to our little scheme. Some already have. Others, have yet to learn how to read, apparently...

....every year, we put up a huge banner at the front of the store proclaiming when Fall Books will become available. It is directly in the line of vision of anyone who walks into the bookstore. The only way one might miss it is if they are looking up, or if they are staring at their shoes, or are blind...This banner has been up for at least a month now, or so it seems that way. Yet everyday, I get at least 12 people who come in and ask when they can buy books for Fall. This prompted us to add another sign. So last week, I drew out a sign on the black wet-erase board, you know, the kind with the neon colored markers. I made it as FLASHY as possible. It's on a big board and you simply cannot miss it--that, and we placed it so you basically have to brush up against it to get into the bookstore. STILL people miss it. Some of them look at both the signs and still have the nerve to come up and ask me if they can buy their books. NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

We're thinking about hiring a bouncer, or just a large, imposing man wearing sunglasses, an earpiece, and a suit, to stand near the sign by the entrance and tell people that they may only enter the bookstore if they can read the sign "FALL BOOKS AVAILABLE AUG. 3rd" out loud to him. If that doesn't work, the hippo pit and taser will. We are saddistic bunch, aren't we?
